Minnehaha County has a long history in the quarry industry. From the boon towns of the 1800s to today, quarrying has played a key role for the Sioux Falls area. Although much has changed, many things remain the same-and today quarrying still takes place in Minnehaha County.
Clark Meyer, Division Manager for Concrete Materials, had the vision of informing the public of what takes place in the quarry, how it impacts all people, and what it has done for the tri-state area. However, the end result has been far greater than that. "We're reaching out to the community," Meyer said. "It gives Concrete Materials the opportunity to educate people on what we do and how our industry impacts Sioux Falls," Meyer added.
Since 1930, Concrete Materials has helped shape the tri-state area into what it is today-through the commitment of producing only the best quality materials to serve the construction industry in eastern South Dakota and surrounding states.
All tours will depart from the Old Courthouse Museum. Tours are free and guaranteed to provide payloads of interesting information. Reservations are required. Those wishing to attend must call 367-4210 to register today. Only four spots per reservation. Upon request, a limited number of group tours can be scheduled.
